- What You Can Expect -

Begin by ascending to the dizzying heights of the Kehlsteinhaus, known as the Eagles Nest in English for its vertiginous location. This chalet structure on one of the lower peaks of the mighty Hoher G?ll mountain was originally built for Hitler's 50th birthday. Luckily it escaped Allied bombs and is now serving a more peaceful purpose as a restaurant and lookout point, offering breathtaking views of the Alps.

Enjoy a delicious traditional Bavarian lunch in the small town of Berchtesgaden, before heading underground to visit the secret world of the salt mines, a complicated tunnel system dating back over 500 years and the birthplace of the famous Bad Reichenhall brand of salt. Finally, it's back to the mountains for a trip to the K?nigssee or 'King’s Lake', formed by glaciers during the last ice age and well known as the cleanest lake in Germany. There's just time to treat yourself to some traditional carved wooden ornaments or perhaps a Bavarian folk embroidery before you jump on the bus and head back to Salzburg, replete with memories of wonderful day in the German Alps.
